The Detailed Review of Wehshi

Wehshi explores the inner conflicts caused by childhood trauma. Starring Khushal Khan, Komal Meer, Nadia Khan, Babar Ali, Shamil Khan, and Tahira Awan, the drama aims to discuss the struggles that become a part of people's personalities after going through trauma in their early years.

The story revolves around the upbringing of Sobia (Meer) and Asif (Khushal Khan). Sobia faces abuse from her father who blames her for all his misfortunes, while Asif enjoys a fairy-tale childhood. Both fathers pass away, and Sobia flourishes without her abusive parent, while Asif struggles when his mother marries Sobia's widowed uncle. As time passes, both Sobia and Asif grow older, and Sobia moves into her uncle's house to focus on her studies.

The drama explores different aspects of Asif's personality and Sobia's self-confidence in overcoming her past. However, there are concerns about portraying women as the ones who can "fix" psychologically scarred men. The show depicts Asif's erratic behaviour and substance abuse without addressing the nature of his psychological disorders, a trend seen in other dramas too.

As Pakistani dramas delve into themes related to mental health, it is suggested to involve trained psychologists or psychiatrists in the scriptwriting process to ensure accurate and sensitive portrayals of psychological issues. Depicting love as a cure for mental illness is deemed irresponsible, considering the real-life risks associated with such situations.

Another concerning theme is the forced remarriage of Asif's mother without her choice. The question arises about why she couldn't be independent and live on her own comfortably, challenging the narrative perpetuated by such storylines.

In terms of production quality, the drama is considered okay, filmed in the same house as another show, Qissa Meherbano Ka, though the choice of this particular house is questioned for its odd appearance.

Regarding the acting, Khushal and Komal performed well, but some artificial speech delivery by Komal and others' unnatural mannerisms were noted. The child actors were not seen as well-cast, despite the availability of good child actors.

Wehshi, despite airing twice a week, fails to make a significant impact on the audience. The drama struggles to maintain audience interest and lacks suspense, attempting to discuss the aftermath of parents hastily remarrying their children and the belief that women can heal mentally troubled spouses.
