Shanto Highlights Positive Competition Among Bowlers Following Pakistan Series Win

Bangladesh captain Najmul Hossain Shanto believes the fast bowling competition within the team is growing, and it is actually a good thing for the evolving Bangladesh side. He applauded the spirit of the whole bowling squad, saying everyone stepped up whenever given the right opportunity during the recent series.

For the unversed, Bangladesh bowling attack played a central role for the team in the recent test series triumph against Pakistan. Taijul Islam and Mehidy Hasan Miraz were the most notable bowlers, while Nahid Rana also showcased his class by picking up 11 scalps.

"I think it is this healthy competition that won us the Test series against Pakistan. It is good to have this kind of healthy competition. Whoever is given the responsibility of bowling, they have stepped up. It is also desirable to see a bowler cutting out the runs or taking wickets when the team is under pressure.” said Najmul Hossain Shanto after the end of the Sylhet test.

“I think it is good that everyone understands how important the moments are. I hope that we don't get too excited and prepare well before the next Test match. We have to correct the mistakes but let this healthy competition thrive." added Najmul Hossain Shanto.

Shanto further said that Bangladesh were under pressure when Mohammad Rizwan and Sajid Khan built a strong partnership on the fifth morning. However, he felt his team stayed calm in the tough moments and managed the pressure well. He also praised the experienced players for making important contributions when the team needed them most.

"It is hard to explain the emotion of that one hour today. To be very honest, we were under pressure as they were batting well. I must however say that our team has improved in controlling their emotions or not panicking in these situations. We haven't reached the level of calmness of top teams, but I am definitely happy with our progress, as a captain.” said Najmul Hossain Shanto.

Shanto then applauded Litton Das, saying his innings was a classic example of how one should play for the team. Besides that, Shanto also praised Taijul Islam for supporting Litton valiantly at the crease.

"I think Litton's innings was a textbook example of playing for the team. It was an outstanding effort. The way Litton batted with responsibility in that situation, you realise just how big teams operate. Everyone in the dressing room had that belief that Litton could give us those important runs. Everyone knew that Taijul bhai would provide support to Litton.” said Najmul Hossain Shanto.
